The Green Seal of Approval

July 13th, 2010

With companies “greenwashing” worldwide, it can be difficult to distinguish products that are truly eco-friendly from ones that are not. Green Seal, founded in 1989, has been working towards making this distinction easier for consumers. Green Seal provides science-based environmental certification standards for manufacturers, industry sectors, purchasing groups, and governments, evaluating the level of “green” from material extraction to product manufacturing and use, and ending with recycling and disposal. In order to receive a Green Seal, products must undergo rigorous testing and evaluation. Upon receipt, the products must continue to meet the Green Seal standards and are subject to continued monitoring. Products may use their Green Seal on packaging, advertisements, product descriptions, etc.
